Ben naar de oorsprong van mijn special sportster aan het speuren. Hij is dus omgebouwd door ll.a. Harley in middelbarnis. Daarna na de usa gegaan en enkele jaren dus weer terug gekomen.
Heb contact gehad met de man die hem toendertijd gefotografeerd heeft, hieronder zijn reactie op deze mail:
Hello Wil,
Congratulations on getting that bike.
As background to the book and the appearance of that motorcycle in the book,
your bike and a couple others appearing in the book were built in Middleharnis, Holland in the late 1980s. Jim Slensveld added those bikes to the rest of the book which I wrote, maybe the shop was a friend of his, so I really know nothing about them. When Slensveld asked me to write the book he told me he was only printing 500 to give to his business friends. I never received a copy of the book.
A friend brought one back printed in Dutch back from a trip to Europe. I then found out that Slensveld put his name on the book as the author...which he wasn't although he wrote the introduction and added a couple of the Dutch bikes. The bike was also printed in several languages. I received no payment for those books plus his name appeared on all of those books, even the English language version that sold in the states so I am not too happy about that. In any case, you can maybe contact Slensveld and ask him about L.A. Harley-Davidson in Middleharnis, although that was many years ago and like many bike shops, it may have gone out of business.Good luck with your hunt and enjoy your bike. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
PS I just finished writing a feature article for a military history magazine about Texel Island during WWII.
Regards,
Paul
